Ms. Carlson has over 25 years of experience in federal and state courts in various types of civil litigation including civil rights and discrimination, constitutional and regulatory challenges, national security matters, as an arbitrator in complex commercial disputes and a mediator in a variety of cases. She graduated from the University of Nebraska School of Law in 1976 and then was a Law Clerk to the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit from 1976-78. After two years as an associate in a Washington, D.C. law firm from 1978-80 she served as a Trial Attorney with the United States Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. from 1980-86, and during that time was also posted to Agana, Guam in 1980-81 for litigation in the Guam Land Claims cases. In 1986 she and her family moved back to St. Louis where she was a full-time Assistant and Associate Professor at Washington University School of Law from 1987-94 in the clinical law program teaching litigation and alternative dispute resolution. She also had the opportunity to serve as a Lecturer at Sichuan University School of Law in the People's Republic of China in 1991 and attend Notre Dame University School of Law Summer Program in Tokyo, Japan in 1974. In 1995 she became a founding partner in this firm.
Susan Carlson currently practices in the following areas:
Sexual Abuse Litigation: representing individuals who have been sexually abused by priests, other clergy, teachers, counselors, and others.
Discrimination and Civil Rights: representing individuals with claims of discrimination and harassment in employment and housing, and other claims involving violations of civil rights.
Arbitration and Mediation: serving as a Certified Neutral for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri, an Arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association on the Commercial, Employment and Large, Complex Case panels, and a Mediator for Pinnacle Arbitration.
